SuperBob's Ottawa Hypothermic Half
SuperBob's Ottawa Hypothermic Half
This Wet Coaster has adapted well to the Ottawa climate so far. I found myself saying that -15 degrees isn't so bad.
Finished with a 2:16 and I'm happy with it. More than 10 minutes slower than my last half. The snow sucked and it was a relief to run on the sections where the snow turned into icky brown slush.
To be honest, I wanted to give up after the first loop. But I hung in there and eventually found my way to the finish line. I couldn't recognize anybody because of all the winter gear. After the race I enjoyed breakfast with James, Kiza, and her clinic group. What a fun bunch!
Now that this first race of 2007 is done, I believe I have a problem with my attitude. I just haven't been caring about my running ever since getting sick earlier this month. I think I should not run the NCM full. The half will be good enough for me. I think it's time to buy some skates... the canal is looking good!

Great run Bob. The canal is indeed looking good. Don't give up NCM so easily, ther is still a lot of time before it and the weather is going to imrove greatly. The condition of the track was probably the worst than you will find.

Bob, it sounds like it was a very tough race, and a race with four loops would be especially tough in those conditions. You have tons of time before NCM... lots of time to get your mojo back and decide what you want to do.

I agree with others...a good race given the conditions and that you've lost your mojo this past month...plenty of time to get it back for the NCM Full...if that's what your heart desires

It sounds like you're adjusting well to the Ottawa weather - don't put NCM out of your mind yet, its still a long way off.

Bob, you are further along in your training than I am and I still haven't given up hope for the full. Hang in there, you just did a half and NCM is still many months away.
Congrats on a great race today.

Congrats on your race. They can't all be perfect! The conditions were pretty slippery out there today.

Well done Super Bob.
You're acclimatizing well....even talking about skating the canal too
As others have said....don't rule out NCM. Lot's of time and now that the days are getting longer (daylight wise), it'll help get your mojo back.
Sorry, I didn't get to meet you. I ran with my sister today as this was her first 1/2 marathon. Tough recognizing anyone with toques and other winter gear.

I believe it is called Donald's Rule. No decision making regarding future races within one week of a race.
Well done Bob! Enjoy the canal!

Thanks for the support, everyone. It's nice to come out of MIA status.
Wise words, indeed. Guilty, once again.

Hey, Bob. Sorry it's been rough going since you came back from HK.
Take it easy and regroup in the next month or so. If you don't do the marathon this spring, no biggie. Better to run a strong half and lay the base for a fall marathon. At least that's what I'm doing. Wanna come to Kelowna?

Nice job, Bob! (anyone else watch Bob the Builder? lol)
Seriously, though, four loops SUCKS at the best of times, so kudos to you for getting it done! And I agree with the others... don't decide about NCM for a few days. ;)
