Best shoes to run a marathon??!

Postby SuperboB » Mon Aug 22, 2005 11:36 am

Hi I currently started to run and need the best shoes possible! I run once a week about 4km each time and it's so cool, lolz! Oh yah, I recently signed up for the full Royal Victoria Marathon to save registration fees, do you think that I will be ready? I'm so excited, I know it will be a great event! My friend who ran the Vancouver marathon did it in 3:15 and said that I look like I can keep up with him and try to qualify for some race in Boston. Lolz, I don't know what he's talking about, but ok I'm up for anything. He also told me to start eating gels but I find that they are pretty boring for lunch everyday, what do you guys think?? kthxbye!

Well, if you want to be fast, you have to have flames on your shoes:

If you wear these, I guarantee a sub three hour marathon! (which would qualify you for that Boston thingy)

Also, to assist you in eating gels - I suggest putting them as the icing on cake - which you should be consuming with every meal.

You might want to back off on your training as well, 4km once a week is a little too much, and you might injure yourself.

Good luck!

You sound ready to go, it's all about attitude anyway.

Besides there is no use running all those extra kilometers this far away from race day, you will just end up getting injured and miss the race. Wait until a couple weeks before the race and do a couple extra runs to get in shape and break in your new shoes (get the ones that look best for the after race photos). You should be good to go.

Don't forget to post your race report afterwards.

You should immediately buy 1 pair Asics Kayano's (for stability) 1 pair Adidas 1 (for intelligence) and 1 pair Nike Free (for speed). Burn all three in your barbeque and mix the ashes with your Gels. Eat nothing but the resultant paste from now on (buy more shoes, as necessary). This will enable you to

1. Run a BQ time barefoot at any marathon and
2. Leap tall buildings in a single bound (in keeping with your name).

Great to see another ambitious guy in here, I think you can do it, if you can see it, you can do it!!!!!! The secret to marathon running is all in this great book you can order from me.

"Marathon running made easy!!" (How you can run a marathon with little or no training)

Just send me $34.98 plus s&h.

Here is an example from the book.

"......in order to strenghten the feet, it is important that you run 300 metres barefoot down a gravel road one hour before the race....this will massage your feet and toughen them up, ignore the blood, the bleeding will stop instantly when you where your special shoes *these shoes have to be ordered separately."

Glad to be of help,

Stephan

Oh yeah, come over here and try to ruin an attempt at a serious running forum.

My advice:
1. The best shoes would be Asics, try the Cumulus or Niimbus since that's where you're at.
2. Stick to Gatorade, not gel. You have to keep ordering stuff in boxes to get those stupid little packs that come inside.
3. If you want a 3.15 finish, find an early morning marathon as that'll give you more time.

Now, go back to your never-ending spam thread....

Where have I been??

Heh, I only discovered this board today when Andre told me about it. The RR was so good in covering up things that I never knew it existed.

Oh good, SuperBob has found us, let the party begin :D It's about time you showed up here Bob. JoJo (jgunning) has all but given the coveted spot of taking care of her in old age to that upstart Jacob. Now you'll have even more things to fill your time while you're on the injured list. Welcome :D

*giggle

oK.. for serious... you want good shoes? Go to a speciality store and talk to someone. We're all made differently.. so don't be taking advice from a scrawny 135lb girl only standing 5'8" who rolls her ankle every flippin week! sigh...

Also, I'm not ashamed to admit that I have no clue what I'm talking about, at least when it comes to shoes anyway. :D

Thanks, Melissa. Your advice about specialty stores is right on track! Be sure to pass it on to all your friends who begin running. OBVIOUSLY YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE WHO CARES ABOUT MY WELLBEING!

Hehe, actually this thread is a joke because many of the Maniacs know that I'm not a beginner runner.

Jen, I think you did but you know how alert I am on Sunday mornings. :?

Oh and Melissa, I'm sorry to hear that you roll your ankle so often. It's worse for me when I do that. I'm 5'3 and 165lbs so you can imagine the damage that my body takes compared to yours! That makes me a real careful person. I'm in no way a graceful runner with light-as-air strides!

Hey SuperBob...

Good to see you over here......BTW...both you and jacob42.2 can look after me when I'm old and crabby. I've decided to spent winters with you cuz the weather is alot milder in Vancouver than Ottawa.
