Sydenham 8k Trail Run - Oct. 18th - LOTS of Fun!
First, I want to say a huge Thank you to Spaff (Derrick) and Sara for organizing this wonderful race. We really, really enjoyed everything. It was a great race, lots of wonderful runners, amazing volunteers including Derrick's parents, a wonderful route and just everything was perfect. Well done! Also, the weather was gorgeous. Just a great day.
David (WingFoot) and I headed to Sydenham early Sunday morning and did the usual prep. I was feeling very anxious and had my usual anxiety performance. Again, I really wasn't expecting a lot. David had a goal and I knew that he'd smash it. I ended up running with Eliza from Sydenham most of the race - we kept trading leads and it was really fun. On the final downhill section, I saw an opportunity, I zoned in and pounded down the hill to gain a lead. I wasn't sure that I'd be able to hold the lead so I just kept pushing, knowing that Eliza was very close. It's amazing how having someone so close motivates you to push harder. So I did and ran strong to the finish. Final time was 37:13 which was faster than I had expected, for sure. I was thrilled. David had nailed his time as well - 33:26 (15th overall). Thank you Eliza - it was great running in stride with such a strong runner.
When Derrick and Sara read out the Age Group awards, we had both placed 2nd in our age groups.... w00t! So awesome and so unexpected. David picked a gorgeous pumpkin as a prize 'cause he knew that I'd love it and I got him a hat. Ain't we sweet? Anyway, just loved the race.
Here's the results & a link to Eliza's Blog with some pics and a video (got to see myself finish - thanks Eliza):

Re: Sydenham 8k Trail Run - Oct. 18th - LOTS of Fun!
Nothing like those competitive juices to get you moving. Congrats my love.
For me - My original goal was to run between 34'-35' having done no speed work at all. During the week I focused on shorter faster runs to get them out of the LSD mode. Near the end of the week I was feeling "speedier" and toed the line hoping to run 4:10/km. I finished in 33:25, just a touch over my goal pace.
Great day for sure - the BEST race shirts
