Picked up something called Sprouted Bean Trio at Costco the other day and YUM YUM YUM. It is a truRoots product. We have been eating their quinoa for awhile so when I saw this new bag I thought I'd give it a try. It is described as a 'colorful, quick-cooking, and nutritious blend of lentils, adzuki and mung beans'. After the first try I have to agree! It's delicious. Liking that it is organic, high fibre and gluten free.

I've seen it by the Quinoa. I think it's in a similar styled bag, but is red, instead of green.
Do you just cook some up and eat it alone or does it taste better if you cook it into a recipe?

I have tried it both on its own as a side as well as in some chili. Both were really good. I can see lots of ways to use it and I'm going to try making a salad with it tonight.

I was in Costco yesterday and picked some up. It was easy to cook and I ended up making the salad recipe that was on the bag. (dressing was lemon juice, olive oil, cumin and salt) I think the next time I will add something else to spice up the flavour, or maybe up the cumin - which I love. Nice texture though...
I think this will be awesome in soups - we do a lot of soup-as-a-meal kind of suppers...

We picked it up and made it tonight. We mixed it with various veg with seasoning. Delish! I can see using it in a lot of dishes.
Re: New favourite
I saw that at Costco also....wasn't sure if I would be in the only one in the house eating it or not, so I did not get it.

Dh and I like it on its own as a side but the boys not so much.
They eat it when it's in something else- both of them liked it in the chili and veggie soup.
Going to try it again tonight. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, we shall see.

Picked this up on the weekend. Any suggestions for seasoning to use with this? I'm planning on using it as a side dish with dinner. Would cooking on broth vs. water have a big impact?

Their website has a link to recipesfor this...
I found them a little bland on their own but really enjoyed the texture. I'm sure you could cook with broth as well. Let us know how it turns out if you do!

Re: New favourite
I bought some of this on the weekend, and cooked up a bit for lunch today. While it was cooking, I sautéed some onions that I added after it was cooked and drained. I also added a touch of cumin and some olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I really enjoyed it. I had the leftover for supper tonight, and it was even tastier.
I'm looking forward to eating it again and trying it in soups and chilis.

I've added these to soup, chili and had them on their own. All good.

Can I replace barley with this, for beef barley soup? How much does it "swell", and does it cook down? ( I.e. soften to the point of being nearly puréed?)

Re: New favourite
I'm sure if you cooked it longer than the recommended time it would become soft. I made some earlier this week and liked it. I cooked one cup and ended up with probably at least 3 cups of finished product.

Re: New favourite
The first time I cooked it, I didn't cook it quite long enough, and it still had a bit of crunch to it. Well... not really crunch, but it wasn't as soft as I thought a cooked bean should be. The next time, I cooked it longer, and the beans were sort of starting to flake apart, or purée a bit on their own, so it was much softer. I also get about 3 cups out of one cup of dry mix.
