Re: Spring Warm-up is Back!
Hey Hezzy. A map of the course is posted at the Dunedin CC. The course is flagged at intersections on the roads, but you need to follow the blazes on the Bruce Trail. The SW attracts 30 - 50 people, who tend to run in packs, as it is more of a social run than a "race", so you typically won...

Spring Warm-up is Back!
Hey all. The Ontario Trail and Ultra Series Spring Warm-up is being held on Saturday April 11, 2015 in Dunedin, Ontario (don't drive to Florida). Dunedin is near Creemore and the course includes dirt roads and the Bruce Trail. For those not familiar with the Spring Warm-up, it is a fund raiser for ...

Re: Icarus Ultrafest
One update... After talking to some other wackoo runners - sorry, ultrarunners, the 75K cut-off will be set for 2015 at 12.5 hours. 75K Runners still need to complete 50K in 8 hours to continue. This is mainly for us older runners! We expect WGR and Chris to churn out a 6 or 7 hour 75K... 2 hours pe...

Re: Icarus Ultrafest
Yeah, 48 hours is a LONG time to have volunteers at 2 aid stations, timing, etc. I helped Diane and Henri quite a bit this year and noticed how hard it is on the RD's, who work almost non-stop from Wednesday evening until Sunday night... CVC 75K: Nothing is set in stone and I might use 2015 as a gau...

Hi all. I am both Chainsaw Baby and Vertical Pierre. I tried changing my RM account over to a single pseudonym, but got caught in an infinite loop... Icarus is a well run event (see my blog for a brief description) and they seem to have added a January event: http://www.icarusfloridaultrafest.com/20...

Re: Why Run Ultras
I run ultras because the per-mile cost is more reasonable... Ultra runners are a little weird... we are currently packing for the Pine Creek Challenge (Saturday September 6), where Curly (Lee Anne Cohen) will run the 100K. We keep saying things like :you don't need that (extra head lamp, box of gels...

Re: Creemore Vertical Challenge
Hey! We had a grand old time! It helps to have near-perfect running weather, so the runners don't have to worry about their core temperature, but can focus on killing the course... Hey all. For those considering this race, Jeff Rowthorne from Get Out There magazine made a Youtube of last year's race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_FtoviUpz4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; By the way, Jeff absolutely smoked the Niagara 50K course on Saturday, in 4:15! Re: Limberlost challenge
I agree that buying a pair of trail shoes is a good idea. The day after you complete TLC 14K, you will be "noticing" every single trail along your normal running routes. They will beckon you. You will then start wearing (this is where the trail running addiction truly starts) trail shoes I...

Thanks all. RobinandAmelia: Great to meet you as well. It is always a highlight during a race to connect with a maniac! Ron: It is very strange being retired. Most of my working career I have hoped for this day. Now that it is here, all I can think is that I'm too young to be doing "nothing&quo...

Hey all. I like to think of PYP as the rude awakening to trail running each year... If you are new to trail running (probably not if you are on the U&T Running page) PYP includes a "gentle" 12.5K distance, where you can practice running broadpath trails, technical single track and of c...

Re: North Face ECS- Blue Mountain
Mike! Good to hear from you!
It would have been more professional if North Face had contacted Neil or the series to try and avoid the conflict. Neil's race date is difficult to move, but there are ample weekends in July/August with no conflicts.

Re: Kingston Self-Transcendence 6-Hour Race, 2014
Kingston is a surprisingly good race. Although short, the route travels along a paved path and road in and out of the old Fort Henry and provides views of historic buildings, lake Ontario, boats and wind turbines. In 2013 the counters were 12 humans, whom you got to know well, as you need to confirm...

Way to go CAW! A marathon and a 50K this year (why not?)! I mean a 50K is easier than a marathon and about the same training... Since you will be trained for the marathon, keep going (let's see what this baby can do!!!). Erinmcd: An nice comfy (65K) ultra in Charlevoix? In September? Hmmm. Baie Sain...
