Re: New to running!
Hi, Erin. I run in Saskatoon, so similar conditions but generally colder. I wear the same shoes (Brooks Adrenaline) summer and winter. If it's icy I will add some spikes, the pull-on kind. Normally on packed snow or cold pavement I don't have traction trouble. You might like trail shoes better but t...

Re: Boston 2018
Yeah, when I read the initial story I thought she truly came out of nowhere, but in reality she had a spectacular college career and was flying under the radar here due to all her time off for injury and school. Still an incredible accomplishment.

Re: Boston 2018
2. Yuki, the men's leader, was so close behind Des. I noticed when he turned onto Hereford that's where he passed Krista. He passed Sellers (the 2nd place woman) along Boylston. They never even mentioned her name, though they did mention Krista coming in 3rd. It was her 2nd marathon ever, and she's...

Good running store in Toronto
Hi, everybody, long time since I've dropped by. My daughter is in the market for a new pair of shoes. She lives in Oakwood Village and doesn't have a car. She's pretty handy with the TTA though. I'm looking for a store to recommend her that would do a good job of fitting her with some new shoes. She...

Toronto area bra shopping
Hi, everybody. I haven't been around much lately but I have a question for the Toronto area women here: where are some good places to get a sports/running bra for a young lady with a very large chest? My daughter says she is a size 32FF these days and is having no luck. She's already tried Lulu.

You also might think about keeping the 3 run/week schedule for now and working towards making one of your runs longer.

Re: Garmin forerunner 10
The Forerunner 25 is out. Addresses all the 10 and 15 flaws. Better band design. 10 hour battery. Waterproof. Bluetooth connection gets rid of all the cradle/cord activity retrieval, it happens with Bluetooth. 2-way process - all the popup notifications on your Smartphone go to your FR 25. Recommen...

My wife gave me a Road ID and I wear it for every run. I think it's especially useful if you are on vacation.

Re: You daily running route
One of the things that helped me vary my routes was getting a GPS watch. I was/am quite anal retentive about tracking my runs, so before the watch I would stick to a few planned routes of known length. Now if I feel like taking a different route, I just go for it and my watch lets me know how far I'...

70 y.o. woman finishes Western States, 29:59:54
That's 6 seconds to spare on the 30 hour limit, and the course AG record. I'm thinking, "there's a 70+ record to break for a 100 mile ultra?" Story here.

I'm a little surprised the field size is so small (4000), I always figured it was bigger than that.

Re: balaclava - recommendation?
Dang. That Gordini balaclava looks exactly what I need! I have the CTR Mistral, and the problem with it is that it has frosts up when you cover your mouth & nose so that you can't breathe. Here it is in action, paired with a 2nd polar-fleece open-faced balaclava (it was a -30 day): http://i1217...

11.5 km in -6 and a miserable March wind, with a great topper of wiping out on some ice with about a km to go. Luckily unhurt.

A quick google shows the Moose Jaw Horizon running club, although the website referred to in that link is gone. It's a small town, no doubt you can find them pretty quickly if they are still around.

Re: Bread Machines
The only complaints I have about ours is that the loaves are pretty small and they always have a hole in the bottom from the dough hook. But they turn out really well. Anyone have a recommendation for a toaster to use on the bread? We replaced a broken toaster with one from KitchenAid and it sucks, ...

Re: What was your most memorable training run?
In 2011 I was staying in a hotel in Burnaby for the Canadian Kendo Championships. I was scheduled that weekend to do a 3 hour run as part of training for my first marathon, and I was determined to do it despite it being a very busy weekend and being away from home. It was memorable for a number of r...
