Thanks, Habs! My cyclist figures he will be about 4 hours, so I should be running by about noon.

Re: Do you walk when you run?

I have been adding walk breaks to almost every run - as I have not been consistent and keep starting over (Some of this is health issues, some of it is motivation issues). When I am running, I will do my short runs continuous, but my long runs I walk every km. When I am over this plague and start ov...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Check in? How are you doing? Your family? Your running? I am ok, still exhausted all the time and putting off calling the doctor about it. I have good days and bad days. I took some time off running - just too tired and unmotivated, but I did go for a brief run last night. I did loops in my neighbo...

Re: Walkers vs runners on downtown sidewalks

I have only run downtown here a couple of times - I avoid it, too many cars, other pedestrians, smokers and cross streets. To be fair, my downtown is MUCH smaller and less busy than, say Toronto's or Edmonton's downtown. There is no sidewalk on my road, I find it frustrating. I was almost hit the ot...

Re: Bread Machines>> Kitchen Gadgets

Speaking of kitchen gadgets. I would like a hand crank coffee grinder exactly like IronColl has. I have searched every possible store here in MH. Every store has the electronic kind, but no hand cranks. It looks like Bed, Bath and Beyond carries them. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.ca/store/product/ha...

Yes, the overnight artisan-style bread I have been making is baked in a dutch oven.

Re: Beginners questions

It's totally normal to feel like you are going to die at the beginning. Every run I go on, I still spend the first 10 (or so) minutes wondering why the hell I am doing this? It gets better. So exactly what does one feel when they get past that "Oh My God the couch seems like a better idea"...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I'm really struggling to fit my runs in. We are all adjusting to the Kindergarten routine, and my entire house is crabby and tired. I really need to come up with a plan that is going to work, as I have been missing a lot of runs. I don't have any dedicated "child-free" time, nor do I have...

Re: IM Lake Tahoe

The reason I remember it was the Okanagan Mountain Fire is I was staying at my parents' when it started, and my mom was head of emergency operations for Area E (Naramata). My brand-new boyfriend, and my friend Emma from Wales were helping search and rescue advise people of the evacuation alert, and ...

Re: IM Lake Tahoe

That sucks. IMC almost went the same way in 2003 with the barriere fire - IIRC they turned the run and bike courses into short loops so that racers and volunteers weren't spread too far out from town, and also to ease the draw on emergency services. It was the Okanagan Mountain Fire. A little close...

Re: Challenge Penticton

I really hope that Challenge can expand and be the race that IMC was. I did a bit of cheering this year, but not a ton, and the course was lonely. I was the only cheer person on a very long stretch of South Main, and I felt bad that I wasn't there very long (I was sore and tired from my race the day...

Re: IT band issues..I think.

-try mixing up where you run, the cantilever on the highway may be aggravating your issue -do the stretch where you lay on your back and make your legs into the 4 and pull your thigh towards you -there is another stretch you can do where you put your leg up on something about hip height. Put the out...

My oatmeal is large flake oats (NOT instant) 1/2c oats, ~1c water, bring to a boil, turn heat down and simmer until thick. I make them a variety of ways. Sometimes, I will add apples and cinnamon while they are cooking, or raisins and cloves. Lately I have been putting my oatmeal on cut up strawberr...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I am working on being consistent again. I missed a ton of training due to the plague/getting my house ready to list/other stress. I'm frustrated with my progress being reset again. I have a half that I am signed up for in August, so I need to get consistent and build distance again. Kids: John is 4....

Re: West Highland Way and/or other UK/Ireland running advent

Hey Heather, checkout Ramblers , they help organize sag service for walking tours. I would think you could incorporate a running tour this way. Also look at Coast to Coast Walk . A co-worker is heading out next week to do this. However this is in the north of England and likely 4 or so hours south ...

Baby shades: I like the Baby Bans. (Might be Baby Banz)

Now that John is older, though, he gets superstore sunglasses, because he just wrecks them.

They changed all the recs even in between when I had John and when I had Mo! Frustrating.

Each baby is different, too. John and Mo were ready for solids by 5 months, Damon could have cared less, and I think he was closer to 7 when we started him. Mo was trying to steal my food at 5 months!

I'm glad I am not the only one with slow teethers. John was so fast, but Damon will be 3 in April and still doesn't have some of his two year molars, and Morgan has 1 tooth at 11 months.

Re: Music While Running

Yesterday, I forgot my iPod so ended up humming the last tune I'd heard before I left the house: the jingle on the Weather Network that's played when they show the local forecast. I hummed that tune to myself for 57 minutes!! That's one boring earworm! On one run this summer, my ipod h...
