The race is a bit of a blur; it unfolds like a surreal dream. A hero's gauntlet of high fives and cheers. I loved the guy with his drum kit out on his porch. And the crazies perched on tall buildings. And all the Kiss Me Wellesley ladies shrieking like banshees. The guys in military fatigues tellin...

Lisa - it was great to hang around with you, especially because it meant there was someone I could turn to and say, "Can you believe this? We're actually HERE!!" Wasn't it great? If I ever go back, you should certainly come - then we'll leave the cameras in the hotel room and show that Boston Marath...

Prairiekid's Videos from Boston
I'm not sure if these links are going to work but I thought I'd give it a try. These are a couple of videos I took in Boston - one in the start corral, one while walking though a water station, and one while running towards the finish line (that one is pretty jumpy). If you can see them, they give y...

Prairiekid's Boston
Where to start? It's impossible to cover it all, but judging from the length of this report, I'm apparently going to try. The whole weekend was an amazing experience, and the race itself turned out to be only a small part of it. I shared a hotel room with my friend Dorothy, who had a really really g...

Can anyone find where the athlete tracking page is? Is it not up yet? In past years they had it so that you could have text alerts to your cellphone. I won't be near a computer during the day, so I'd like to have those alerts for a few people. I think if you want text alerts it has to be set up by ...

The problem is that they need to be constantly calibrated to maintain that accuracy. And the calibration only tends to correspond with the same pace, stride, and conditions. So you'd need to reset the watch for every workout, which just seems like a pain. Straight out of the box I found my Garmin t...

2. Polar speed/distance watches. By far the best Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) on the market. Very comfortable straps. But the accuracy of speed distance pales next to the GPS units. With the possible exception if you run under extremely heavy tree cover (forrest trails) or in a heavily populated downto...

If you used canned lentils and drained them well, it probably would't turn out so liquidy. Sounds worth trying! Actually I did use canned lentils. Maybe I just needed to drain them better. Also, I think I may have added some grated Parmesan cheese, and I think the breadcrumbs may have been Italian-...

Re: Lentil Spread
In the grocery store today, buying my hummus and pita for lunch, I saw lentil spread. Instead of the 2g of protein per 2 tblsp that hummus has, it has 16g! Taste... it's ok. I think I kinda like it. :) I've made something like this at home - same method as hummus - garlic, oil, lentils, food proces...

I like the breakfast idea too. I wonder if you could slow cook it in skim milk instead of water and add nuts and raisins or other dried fruit. Hmmm... I made some of this for breakfast this morning, and I'm eating it right now - it's yummy! I started with 1/3 cup dry quinoa, 2/3 cup skim milk, some...

My shoes just arrived and they seem to be "as advertised". Also, they marked it as a gift, so I didn't have to pay any duty or taxes. I suppose I may still get a bill for that some time in the future, but so far I'm very happy. $66 for new shoes! I think I may get a second pair before they're out o...

I often cook it up and add canned lentils. Then I'll stir-fry some onions and garlic and kale and toss it all with oyster sauce. It's like some kind of mega-super food combo! Quinoa-lentils-garlic-kale... it's great. I like the breakfast idea too. I wonder if you could slow cook it in skim milk inst...

I like chocolate milk after a long run but it's not something I otherwise buy--which means I don't normally have or keep it on hand, or it will go bad. I find that soy milk stays fresh in the fridge waaaaaaay longer than cow milk. I really like the Silk brand chocolate soy milk - it's thicker and c...

the only caveat I'd have is be careful with shipping. Make sure you know what the shipping costs are beforehand and make sure they ship by USPS and not a courier. If it's determined that they are eligible for duty the handling fee and charges are for some reason much cheaper through Canada Post. An...
