New York City Marathon
It's on Sunday, November 2, 2008
This is one I really want to do.
http://www.nycmarathon.org/entrantinfo/applyfor2008.php
I know there are a few people who are going for sure with guaranteed entries, and a few others who will go via a tour company. I think I'm going to take my chances with the lottery this year, even though I would like to be able to qualify some day (I need to shave about 7 minutes off my half-marathon PB).
Anyone else thinkng of entering the lottery? Lottery applications will be available on Feb 25. Anyone else going with a guaranteed entry?

I entered the lottery one year. I made the mistake of not entering it the next year.
So, I have to start again.
I don't want to run it next year, but, I think I may enter the lottery - just to get the count going. If I get in .....well.....then I guess I have a decision....

You mean this year-- 2008? Or 2009?
I'm not 100% sure I want to run it this year, but my thinking is the same as yours. And if I do get in, well... then we'll see-- maybe it's a matter of letting the cards fall as they do. If we both enter and both get it, we could run together.

Yeah, I'll enter the lottery. If need be, my BIL-to-be's sister lives on Long Island.

I think I've seen packages from Ottawa for around 1500 or so - which, apparently could be a good deal depending on how you'd pay for things....
Likely... it's all dependent on whether you fly vs surface travel and where you stay.

I'm in with a guaranteed entry as a three-time lottery loser. I started a thread last week with all the details.
We'll be there. I'm assuming I'll stay with a friend of ours in SoHo but we'll see. I'm not adverse to fleabag hotels either.
The WORST thing about the NYC Marathon is that NYC is the greatest city to run in and it'll be killing me not to be putting in some monster miles along the Hudson River and in Central Park.

I am entering the lottery this year, accepted or not, I will NOT be running it. I am running Utah in November. If I am rejected it will be #2 for me. If accepted, I will pay to reserve my spot for next year. Win-Win as far as I am concerned.

Reading the instruction my understanding is that if you are accepted, they automatically debit the charge on your credit card for this year and if you run only next year, they will charge you another $200 for 2009.
Am I wrong abut this?
