Congrats Race Director Dwayne

Postby KBO » Sat Jul 19, 2008 1:01 pm

Dwayne made his debut as a race director today. The first race in his trail run series was this morning at Bird's Hill Park just north of Winnipeg and it was a great success. Congrats on a well-organized fun event!

It was hard running but it was so much fun! Highlights:

- Excellent race kit pick up
- Nice shirts and yummy snacks in the treat bag
- Super sponsorship
- Funny pre-race talk with the participants...hecklers? Of course there weren't hecklers!
- Lovely, nice volunteers (Maniacs at the half way point water station!)
- Beyond excellent post-race food....first there was water, delish cookies, oranges and bananas and also lemonade handed out by folks from Lululemon. Then came the pancake breakfast with bacon, coffee and juice.

Value for dollar - OUTSTANDING!

Sad I'm missing the second race in the series but totally looking forward to race #3.

Great job Dwayne! That was quite the debut!

I second everything KBO said, and will add that the prizes were also great, and unexpected (and yes, I actually won something!) (In fact - BRAGGING - I was actually the first woman...) Also the timing was very well done (with help from our Mouse) and the results were available instantly.

Excellent job Dwayne! I also have to miss the next one (I'll be out of town  ), but I'll be back to try and reclaim my title at the 12km on August 23rd. Will there be more prizes? Will there be more pancakes?

Manitoba Maniacs GO RUN THESE RACES! The trails are a tough go, but it's a good kind of tough, and it's cute to watch Dwayne be all nervous.

Yay Dwayne!

Thanks everyone!!!

I really have to thank all the runners that took the plunge and tried something new, change can be scary :-)

Also, what can I say about my volunteers! Wow, wow and super wow!, thank you! Each of you gave me your time and energy, and for that I am extremely grateful.

Everything should just get a bit better for each race, one of my goals was to start small and put on a stellar event that got people talking and excited so that they would bring their friends for the next one. I will single out Natalie and thank her for her organizational skills and level headed-ness when I was tired, cranky and freaking out :-)

Now, how is this for timing, Environment Canada kept changing their forecast all week, at one point it was supposed to be pouring for the race, but it was amazing this morning. Now, just as I got home from dropping off gear, the clouds opened up and it's pouring!

If anyone wants to come make dinner for Natalie & I while we relax like zombies watching the tour, just say the word :-)

Tell me why I decided to do 5 races instead of just one again? :-) Oh, right, because I'm obviously a glutton for punishment.

Thanks again everyone!

Oh, that's just the standard cotton t-shirt, the lulu one's are even better yet :-)

There will be more prizes, more pancakes and more mud, even if I have to pour water on the course myself :-)

Congrats Pam on the win, nearly puking hard at the end!

There are MORE shirts? I thought those were the Lulu ones. How much will the Lulu ones be? What will they be like?

Also Congrats to Bingerunner for coming in first in the Masters group and second overall!

And thanks for letting me be a part of it.

This was my first chance to be on the other side of an event - volunteering & it was a blast !!!!

Andrea & I had a great time at the water station - but got to say - it was over WAY TO QUICK !!!

Can't wait for the next one !!!!!

Here's some pics..........................

Dwayne put his heart & soul into making this event special & you could tell. Probably the biggest compliment was the fact that more than 75% of the runners registered for the whole series – that says a lot !!!!
If you haven’t already signed up – do it – I’ve got a feeling this is the start of some fantastic trail racing in Manitoba !!!

All races are on Saturdays - August 9th, 9km and August 23rd, 12km. On the Sunday in-between (17 Aug) there is a half in the same park, except it's a road race.

That would be cool if you could make it!
