Disappearing avatars

Postby Jwolf » Sun Oct 21, 2012 10:42 pm

Someone else and I have noticed that some people's avatars seem to show up in some browsers and platforms but not others.

For example, I can see my own avatar in Chrome, but not in FireFox or on Tapatalk. Same with some other people's, even Holly's.

I didn't change anything in my user profile: it still shows the avatar as being there in Chrome, but not in FireFox.

????

seems to be the avatars that are being linked from facebook. the others seem to be working fine (Ironboy's is the only exception I've found so far!).

It might be a facebook thing.

oh that could be. But the odd thing is that the avatar link is totally gone in FF but it's still there in Chrome.

I'll try to reload it.

I just went into my user control panel and added the url again (same one) and it worked.

the link isn't totally gone in ff. I can see it. It's just not displaying the photo.

well when I looked at my own user profile in FF, the avatar field was blank. As if I never loaded anything.

I will reload it when I get back to the computer. It's an easy fix but doesn't really explain why the problem started. Oh well.

Try rebooting your computer. Turn it off, unplug it for a few seconds, plug it back in, turn it back on, and then see if it works.

The problem is reproducible on different computers. I noticed it only after someone else told me she couldn't see my avatar.

I can't see your avatar right now (and it's not a little red X, it's just completely blank). I am at work and using IE8.

I'm on a Macbook Pro running Firefox 17. I see nothing.

Now I actually deleted it and I was going to reload ii- but I haven't yet. So that's why no one can see anything. ;)

But that's how it looked to me too before, just on ff though- no little red x just blank. But it was fine on chrome.

I was the person who pointed it out to Jenn last night.

My jacc.ca domain lapsed, so until I get it up and running again (or at least able to host some files), I will be avatarless.

Interesting. I thought Playbook users were fictional, like sprites and elves.

I'm at home now, using Chrome. I still can't see Jwolf's avatar, nor can I see Ironboy's (though his has a placeholder for an avatar, whereas Jen's does not).

The reason you couldnt see it was because I hadn't uploaded a new one yet! Now I have. Hopefully it will be visible on all browswers and platforms.
