That works for me!

Gives me a chance to get in the habit of putting my pedometer on without the repercussions of missing a couple days in that first week.

What if we used the first week to set a baseline - find out what your average is for the week....then, next week (we could even just use February 1st), start the shallonge, and, the goal could be to increase your steps by 10, 15 or 25 % over your baseline.

Sounds good. I still have to find my pedometer

Ok I have found my pedometer, thanks for the reminder Jo-Jo! I don't know if I'm even going to officially participate, but this thread and the shallonge idea have at least gotten me motivated to see what my baseline is and attempt to improve it as I start my new job. Thanks friends!

If anyone is still in need of a pedometer, PM me and I'll throw it in the mail to you. New, in-box, the same model as the one I calibrated bang-on the other night.

This might be good for me. I've been having a hard time getting runs in due to illness but I could still be walking. I'm so all or nothing though that if I'm not running I figure what's the point? The point is - walking will help maintain some fitness and might help the fact that my clothes have all shrunk since Xmas.!

Now, I just need to find a pedometer...

Ok - I think that my new pedometer might not be working! :( :( :( I walked to the bathroom (67 steps) and it still said zero! I only got to 1 step by shaking it, though even that doesn't seem to work.

Kiza - is yours working?

oh no! we should have tried it out.

Mine's working.

crap. I just looked at it and it says "0" - it said 647 a little while ago. Maybe I hit the reset button by mistake?

I'll try the other one.

I found a pedometer. If anyone wants it in Ottawa, I can leave it in my mailbox and you can come and pick it up. I got it for free a couple of years ago and it was only used a couple of times and has been kicking around the house since. The hospital gave them away on employee week and I have only used it to find out how many steps I did at work in a 12 hour shift.

Carrie - I may take you up on that one!

Kiza - do you mind trying out the other one you have to see if it works, and if not, I'll make arrangements to get the one from Carrie.

and? how many steps?

I may take you up on that offer - since the ones from Andy aren't working as well as I'd hoped (and one needs a new battery).

well, mine was working - I was up to 647 - but, then, I looked at it, and, it said "0" - now, it says 11 - I haven't gotten out of my chair though.

I imagine the Timex one would work - but, it needs a new battery, I think.

Jesse just said that hers isn't working. :(

I just remembered that my new ipod has a pedometer on it so I've strapped it on to see how well it works. Not sure how it's going to look with my work outfits though! I see a lot of cardigans in my future. :)

I will probably join in with this shallonge. I just found my pedometer in one room, the clip in another room, and the software to load the results onto the computer in another room. I still haven't found the USB cable that connect it to the computer though. The battery is dead and I don't have a screwdriver small enough to open it. I'll have to go to Canadian Tire at lunch and buy a mini-sized screwdriver so I can open it, and then I'll buy a battery while I'm there.

My pedometer is supposed to be able to tell the difference between 'normal walking' and 'aerobic walking'. We'll see...

Are we allowed to add estimates to our time for times we won't be wearing the pedometer? I walk to and from the running store on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and sometimes Saturdays. It's 1.25km each way. I won't be carrying my pedometer for those trips because I'll have my Garmin on, and I won't want the pedometer too.

Mary - you are allowed to do whatever you want to do! ;)

Why don't you wear it once, find out how many steps it is, then, add those numbers on! :)

I'm really excited about this challenge.

As I told Irongirl on the phone today...I am so tempted to put a pedometer on C-Moss during the day...just to see how lazy she really is during the day

alrighty - working pedometer is on!

I did notice that if I saunter around, it doesn't pick up my steps. I haven't checked the calibration of it either...but, it's a start!

I'm almost at 1000!

I did 5000 steps yesterday. Not bad considering the road/sidewalks were crap so I didn't get out for a walk with Raven but I did scrub the floors (not so much steps as crawls...but I was sweating nonetheless!)

I should be able to double that today with a good walk with Raven.

I'm liking Jo-Jo's idea of strapping a pedometer to the dog to see how lazy she is through the day.

I think Oliver walks from one sleeping surface to the next during the day and that is about it. He starts out in our bed and ends up on the sofa by the time I get home from work.
