tired today - did the 12 hour relay thing - walked quite a fair bit - did not time myself this year but took many shifts and did about 2 hours on my own at about 1-3am
An amazing event in which you learn alot about encouragement, courage and humility in life
I noticed that when I walk for longer periods - my lower back kills!!! this does not happen as much with running
all in all a rest for the rest of today is earned

way to go, girl! What an amazing event to be part of.
Don't know if this might help with what you were experiencing, but I used to teach bellydancing and I notice that a lot of walkers (esp. after 10km or so) and dance students share a similiar physical "quirk" - they tend to lose the neutral positioning of the spine and the pelvis gets tipped downward (instead of a gentle pelvic tuck to keep the spine neutral). It really accentuates the natural "sway" of the lumbar/sacral spine and munches your vertebrae. I know that when my lower back starts givin' me grief, bending over to stretch out the hamstrings, realigning the spine, and tucking my pelvis under makes a world of difference.

I totally agree with Carrie - stretching the back will help you quite a bit. Enjoy the rest. You must have been walking with rounded shoulders which will also give you sore lower back muscle . Rest a couple of days, yeah, I know you can't miss running but bye taking a couple of days off you WILL feel better.
