Re: My new ScrewShoes
I actually just did this last weekend, I used #10 screws, 3/8" long. The 1/2" ones looked just a little long to me. You need to use the screws with the head that requires a nutdriver like Turd shows in the first photo. I used 10 screws each shoe, 6 in the forefoot, 4 in the heel. I didn't find them all that bad on asphalt, although of course more comfy on snow. Frankly unless it is really slick outside I doubt I'll bust these out again, my regular shoes work fine in most winter conditions around here. But for a $5 pack of screws and an old pair of shoes it was a worthwhile experiment.

Re: My new ScrewShoes
Timely post - we've had a bunch of snow and I've had them on a few times already this winter for walking the dog.
When you hang out with runners, having screwshoes painted orange is routine. When you wear them out in everyday life (like walking the dog to the grocery store) you get some attention.

You've just given me an idea...I don't run outdoors (I become a hamster) when conditions are "iffy" but I do walk C-Moss...must try this screwshoe idea!!!

We didn't have any real snow last year so I used mine only once. I am looking forward to trying them in some more challenging conditions - like downtown Winnipeg tonight.

We didn't get much snow last year, but I wore my screw shoes a lot. I found that they were perfect for the early mornings when the snow plow had just gone by and left a slippery, compacted layer of snow on the side of the road.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

Re: My new ScrewShoes
I was out last night walking the dog in my not-screwshoes (an old pair of Nikes) and had an inspiration that's going to blow screwshoes away. Make screwshoes look like yesterday's news.
Off to Home Depot tonight. Report to follow.

I have some old snow tires you can use.
The Summer of Eng is over.
Re: My new ScrewShoes
Curious!
The crap we get here in the winter is more like a) thick slush, or b) greasy un-packed snow. In both cases it moves around too much under your feet that screws (or anything for that matter) don't help. I don't find that my feet slip ON the snow or ice, but rather that the ice/snow slip on the pavement underneath my feet!
Does that make sense?

I agree, this could be interesting to say the least. And I'm certain his DW will be rolling her eye at him. I would say keep your eyes open on FB too.

I am waiting for the report. I would like something just for walking in my neighbourhood.

I've been busy. It requires some unusual supplies.

And with the paint, should the screw shoe fail and one ends up in a ditch, easier to find the body.

I'd prefer to see what Trixiee does with those kind of supplies than what turd will do with them.
