Blisters...to pop or not to pop?

Postby braveheart » Sun May 29, 2011 2:34 pm

Just got a medium blister in the instep of my foot. I think it was the sock and not the shoes.

Do I pop it or not?

Or do I put some Polysporin on it and either cover it up or air it out?

I don't care if you pop it or not. Post a picture, then we'll talk.

This is it a few days ago. I covered it while running today but the bandaid came off so it is now about a bit more than double the size.

Right or wrong, I'm always a fan of slicing all the excess skin and disinfecting. I'm the kind that will itch and paw at it otherwise, so once it's cleaned up, I cover it and it doesn't bug me anymore.

I don't get blisters much, but I do that with most other abraisions and they heal up good.

Sorry no blood...

I have a recent history or MRSA so any skin thing freaks me a bit.

The poll is not just for my blister but was wondering what others do with theirs.

For me, sterile needle, I drain it...and that's all. Works well for me.

Pop it with a sterilized needle. Let it drain. Leave the skin on! Cover if necessary but if not leave open to air. Will heal up on own.

if you pop it yourself, you can control the conditions by disinfecting before popping and then putting a blister bandage on it to keep it germ free. if left to its own devices, it might pop in less than desirable conditions.

with a history of mrsa, you could even justify a clinic trip.

I always pop it - especially if it's in a bad place where it's going to rub or get really sore. Pop it on the side, drain it and throw some second skin and molekin on it.

Presto!

If you are from Venus, let it be. If you are from Mars, grab a nail or screwdriver and pop it.

I got a blister on the ball of my foot (in the space under my big toe and first toe) while walking the dog on Monday. I was worried because it was in a prime spot to be an issue in my heels (stilettos) at the Mess Dinner last night. I did not pop it and it settled back down and was not even noticeable last night. :D

So glad this question was asked. Now how about a blood blister? I have one that started under my toenail on my 4th toe. Not sure if it's from my running shoes or socks. I started wearing better quality socks (purchased from RR) but it seems to be getting worse. It doesn't hurt while I'm running, but today is starting to feel a little tender. Should I pop or not?

How does that even exist?? Would have thought it would be impossible to get that outta the shoe...
For me it kinda depends...if its going to be tough to get there because I'd have to go through callus I leave it be...I find those ones seal up nice and you don't lose your callus then. That one above though? Kill it! Kill it now! I typically just pinch a tiny hole when my hands and feet are clean outta laziness but I hear the sterile needles the better deal
