Accountability Thread

Postby Kelodie » Sun Sep 13, 2009 6:32 pm

Hi guys,

I've been riding my bike a lot this Summer and I seem to have lost all interest in running. I always have a good excuse not to go running and it has to stop because the only reason why I make excuses is because I have to start over and I'm discouraged. I thought that if I had a thread here to update and keep me accountable, maybe that would help.

I ran this morning for the first time since August 8. I had a ton of good reasons not to run: I was sick, I was tired, I was out of town for work, it was too hot outside, I prefered to bike and got my exercise this way, etc.

This streak ended this morning. I put on my shoes and went out. I was happily surprised to realize that I could start at week 3 of Learn to Run, but at the same time, discouraged by the long road ahead.

So, I did 6 x 2:1s for a total distance of 2.3km in 21 minutes. I felt a lot of tightness in my legs after those 6 sets, so I decided not to push it too much for today.

This week, I plan on running on Wednesday at lunch. No excuse. Keep me accountable!

Good luck Claudie.

I'm not one to talk because I am totally discouraged by my lack of progress with running and not overly motivated to change that right now, so just lots and lots of encouragement from me. I believe(know) that you will be able to get back to where you want to be.

I went through a similar experience ... replace swimming with biking for me ... I finally got my running butt in gear in August, although each time I went out, I felt so discouraged because I couldn't run the distances that I used to. Yesterday was the 1st day I actually felt like I was "back"... it felt amazing! You'll get there, too!

I ran at lunch today. I did 6x 2:1. It was very tough - felt like I had the lungs of an 80 year-old. :(

No major muscle pain though. Just normal soreness when you're starting over.

Feeling a bit low right now. I feel like eating my emotions. Sigh.

You're doing awesome! I ran this morning. And I got up at 5 am to do it. ;) After two months off. *sigh*

I did 5 minutes warm up; 3:1 x 5, 5 minutes cool down. So you are ahead of me. ;)

I didn't to my triathlon this morning. I have been having ear pain for 2 weeks and yesterday, I almost passed out when I put drops in my ears. I went to the doctor this morning and all is good, except that my ear canal is swollen because of my allergies, which is why I'm in pain.

Anyway, I didn't run today, but I will either run tomorrow or Tuesday at lunch. Promise.

I ran at lunch today. I did 7 x 2:1s. It was hard, but not as much as last Wednesday.

I'm not sure when my next run will be as I will be away from home for work Wed-Fri. We'll see!

My plan is to run tomorrow at lunch, unless I get any major issues from my osteopathy appointment today. So far, so good, though. I feel all loosened up!

6 x 2:1s this morning. I thought I could run while on a work-related trip to Montreal this week, but I just couldn't kick myself on the butt strongly enough to make it happen. So be it.

This morning was tough! My lungs were on fire the whole time.

i think I'll probably go up to 3:1s this week when I can finally run consistently.

Next run: Tuesday at lunch.
