books on running?
books on running?
Hi all -
I want a book for beginner runners so that I can improve my form and endurance, etc...but it seems every book I pick up is written for the purpose of getting someone marathon ready. I do not want to run a marathon at this time and have no plans to do so in the next 6 months.
Can you guys recommend books that I should look at?
Right now I'm taking parts I can use from Run Less, Run Faster by Bill Pierce, Scott Murr and Ray Moss.
Thanks!

Check out your local chapters/indigo... they usually have a selection.
Some people like Stanton's "Running start to finish" but I haven't read it myself.

Have you looked at the Running Rooms book? "From Start to Finish" or something like that. It is geared towards the beginner.

Okay, I've read and own John Stanton's Running Start to Finish.
It covers the basics and is good for a beginner. No need to start out with the Lore of Running (which I've also read and own).

Re: books on running?
Another recommendation is by John "The Penguin" Bingham. Great read.
Re: books on running?
The newer version of Stanton's book is just called "Running" (subtitled "The Complete Guide to Building your Running Program").
I highly recommend it for new runners (I still have mine and refer to it often).
I do not recommend "Run Less, Run Faster" for new runners.

I agree.

Re: books on running?
I own both start to finish and Stanton's newer "Running". The older sells for 4.99 at chapters and does you just fine, but the newer book (was a gift) has much more information in it. I'd spend the extra 15 bucks and buy the newer one.
You really don't need either to pick up running though.

Oh, I'm full of crap, as usual. The one I found helpful is actually titled Running Room's Book on Running.

I'm not sure why he keep's changing the name, but this is the second version of the book, so I should have actually said that "Running" was the NEWEST version. They''re all pretty much the same, but I notice that the latest one has better pictures for cross-training exercises.

you should move to Edmonton. Life-sized murals on the RR walls.
But you're the first person I've ever heard of who likes that. lol
