Newbie saying hi!

Postby ottawamom » Tue May 25, 2010 6:48 am

Hi! Just found these boards and thought I should pop in and say howdy!

I just finished my first race this past weekend (the Early Bird Tri in Ottawa) and I think I might be hooked. Wish I'd trained a little more/better for it but getting a chest cold May 1st that had me totally sidelined until the 17th really didn't help. Also know I need a road/hybrid bike for future races - the mountain bike SUCKED large.

Next up is the 5K runway run at Pearson Airport in Toronto with some other friends. There are 3-4 of us doing this and we've all lost over 100 lbs in 2009-2010 so we're all really pumped to do so. A little worried about the potential heat factor but am making sure I get out there now that the warmer temps have returned again.

Back to my C25K running program to get me ready - was easily into week 7 (doing 25 min runs without stopping) and am now back to barely being able to run week 6 (tried 5 min run, 90 sec walk, 8 min run, 3 min walk and couldn't do the last 5 min run yesterday) so am back to W6D1. I also tried this on the treadmill and I've been running outside for weeks now (usually 2x a week and maybe 1 treadmill run).

Looking forward to chatting with like-minded folks!

Hmmm... we you & I might have to talk bikes!! LOL

Was a cool race - both fun and the temperature. Yeah - I'm actually down 147 lbs as of today and have maybe another 20 to go?

How did your Ironboy do?? I came in about 114/132 in the Try-a-Tri (females) and it was respectable for my first one. Did far better on the bike than I ever expected... came 2nd last in the swim but I chose to change out of my suit and into my bike/running gear and was willing to eat the 5-6 min it took. Next time, I'll have had the extra skin removed so I won't be as worried about it. :)
