Cycling Gear Survey
Hey folks,
my buddy is a merchandise buyer and he sent along a link to see if cyclists would actually wear Maple Leaf logo'd gear.
What are your thoughts?
My feeling is that we usually like to show off our club or our fav cycling team, etc. Most of our designs are very industry related so I am not sure if this would sell to our market. He was just looking for opinions to see if it would be worth carrying in his stores.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I tend to agree... most of my cycling stuff is cycling-related or logo-less. I can't really see myself buying hockey stuff for cycling, nor would I wear a Hesjedal jersey to a Leaf game.

Thanks Jono! Yeah, especially, when you are on the road and a rival fan comes up behind in their car. Easy target. HAHA
Re: Cycling Gear Survey
OMG, I was totally looking for a Habs cycling jersey!!! I would wear that!
I didn't understand what you meant by "Maple Leaf Logo'd stuff." I thought you meant the red maple leaf - as in Canadian stuff.
I also love the rock n' roll themed jerseys (Dark Side of the Moon, AC/DC, etc.). I think they're fun! I don't own ANY pro team logo'd stuff. Besides the fact that it doesn't fit me (I'm not built like a typical male cyclist ), the teams change so often that it goes out of date (hello, USPS or Team Discovery cycling kit! ). Maybe when it becomes "retro" in a few years...
ETA: No Montreal Expos jersey.

Re: Cycling Gear Survey
Ah, I should have wrote Toronto Maple Leafs. Sorry.
I do see some folks out there being creative but it is a tough market to supply, especially, when most of the customers are not cyclists but hockey fans. If it was a Cycling store, I would tell him that a few of these on hand would sell but when most of your customer base is coming in to look for hockey or basketball apparel, the cycling stuff may sit for quite some time.

For the record, I would never wear a Toronto Maple Leafs ANYTHING!
I think stuff like this would sell in a cyling store, but wouldn't sell in a general sporting goods store (because nobody is shopping for cycling gear at SportChek!).
Also, in the women's market there is www.teamestrogen.com. They have some awesome cycling stuff that isn't pro-cycling team related at all. Maybe only women are interested in fun cycling gear.

Re: Cycling Gear Survey
I would agree that the ladies tend to have more fun with their selection of cycling gear. There are a few brave guys at the tris and dus that I have seen with Sesame Street characters or AC/DC logos. I think it is great but I don't think I could pull it off, especially, with matching socks.

Sadly enough, it just might be enough to have someone swerve closer to a cyclist "for fun", or throw a beer can at them. If I wore a Flames cycling jersey around Edmonton I can guarantee a problem on my rides along secondary roads.
Now....if they had a Sask Roughrider jersey I'd be all over it.

As usual, the idiots that do these pranks, dont realize the concequences until someone gets hurt or killed. It may be good for a laugh once or twice but eventually something will go wrong, at the expense of an innocent.

My new firm is cycling-crazy and has full branded gear (arm and leg warmers, shorts, jerseys, jackets).
Maple Leaf? My cycle club did a set up a few years ago and they turned out REALLY gaudy.

Ann, A Hanover person who dislikes hockey. I would not bring that out in public forum. They may commit you up there. HAHA
Jono, Yeah, everyone calls them something different. I would put cassettes, etc in the Cycling Component Survey. Gear is my clothing, shoes, etc.

Haven't you notice that all the "cool kids" are wearing Expos gear? Mostly hats, but I'm, like, "Do you even know the now-defunct team whose logo you're wearing??"
I have a personal connection to the team that goes beyond it simply being my home-town team.

Honestly, there's an age where it's no longer appropriate to wear a team jersey. That age comes around the same time you move out of your parents' basement.

No. The thought I am attaching to the common Toronto fan is similar to your thought:

Nothing wrong with this view. I, however, think is is great for fans to wear their team's jersey to a live event where that team is one of the participants. I also think it would be reasonable to wear team colours while cycling. Perhaps I belong more in a US college town than in the Toronto area.
Typically I would leave the team jerseys for the live events and proudly wear stuff like this when cycling, this is sweet, would jive nicely with the jersey in my avitar.
