Re: The lamest reindeer of all
She could certainly be... I just searched out people who have won medals, gotten world records etc. I don't know a ton about her, only that she's won some ultra races. Does she have an ultra record, or could it be said she's the best in the world or the best in Canada? She certainly inspires people on here, and that's important, but I was thinking of Canadians who have been at the very top over time. I'm certainly inspired by Hilary Stellingwerff and Reid Coolaset, too, and they're awesome runners, but compared to the names on that list, they wouldn't be as significant. However as I said if she is that much of an inspiration to people here, than for sure she should be on the list.

Re: The lamest reindeer of all
From what I've read, she's not Canadian (yet). Lives and trains in North Van, but from Scotland. Her website says she's competing on behalf of Great Britian in 2013.

The lamest reindeer of all
Pretty cool...good for her. Guess it would depend on whether or not we include people who live in Canada but aren't Canadian, then.

Re: The lamest reindeer of all
Very few, if any ultra runners would be famous. I think your definition of famous means they'd need significant media coverage and possibly be an Olympian (of sorts). Some "great" runners wouldn't make the cut.
otoh, I don't follow track or even world class marathoning for any nation, so I don't recognize most of the listed names. So any unknown famous runner is good for me.
btw, I know far more physicists.

Re: The lamest reindeer of all
What about Ed Whitlock? I don't know if he's won any medals per se...but I don't think anyone would argue that he is not a significant Canadian runner. Certainly inspirational to many here, anyway.
Though, I suppose his nationality/citizenship could be in question too.

Yes.
It's a good historic list for sure. But there are some more recent athletes that could be included. It would be hard to keep it at 12 though.

Why? Because he wasn't born in Canada? He's definitely Canadian.

I'm just saying it depends on what one's definition of "significant Canadian runners" is...natural born Canadians? Canadian citizens? People who've influenced Canadian running regardless of nationality?

I think we can find plenty using the loose definition of "people who pin on a maple leaf when they represent a country while running".

Think that someone may have been a bit "grouchy" during that timeframe, perhaps???
What about all the Captains of Star Trek ??

Re: The lamest reindeer of all
I think the mods name is hilarious!
I like being Abby Hoffman....not that I have any idea who she is...but the name sounds vaguely familiar...I'm going to go ahead and assume it is good though.
Off to go Google Abby Hoffman now.
